No home games in August then.
I see that they're holding the World athletics championships in 'our' home from the 5th to the 13th of August this year. So by the time they've moved the "state of the art retractable seating" we'll be well into September before we get a home game. Or perhaps we'll borrow the Matchroom stadium for a couple of games.
Another advantage of moving to 'our' world class arena.

I doubt you'll ever see Boxing Day home games either.

Johnson, I hadn't considered that. Would it have something to do with the hordes of sale shoppers at Westfield?

Once those seats come out Newham will say they can't afford to put them back.

The World Athletics Championships won't be there every year obviously but there will be some Athletics Grand Prix event every year .... it IS an Athletics stadium after an all.
Whether that's as late as August who knows but that if not I imagine we will see concerts and t20 cricket with the new franchise Essex Bangladesh.

This year it will be put down as coincidence but next year I expect Westfield will get their way again and it will be Xmas Sales 1 West Ham 0.

Boxing Day? There will be "hoardes" of shoppers at Westfield today probably just as many as Boxing Day.

Might even be more because some shops like John Lewis don't open Boxing Day but do today.

That's what you get for being a tenant. Absolutely no say in how things are run.

OB won't allow West Ham to play at one on Boxing Day, thought that was well known?

Yes, 64 and there's been diversions from the station to the stadium put in place.

Possibly to keep fans and shoppers apart? Who knows as there wasn't any works happening when they did it for Hull apparently.

We're playing Man U at home under the lights on a bank holiday today and people are moaning about next August.

Proper West Ham that.

After the commitment to host this event is done I can see the government wanting to find a way out of subbing this stadium beyond the next couple of years. It's a massive drain on finances and the seating issue prevents wider use of the stadium to get more regular use of it.
I can see them looking to sell it to a private company with some sort of covenant that it must support athletics for x amount of years.

Hardly news is it we were awarded the championship on 11 November 2011!

Why would anyone be excited by a home game at the athletics gaff?

Re: No home games in August then.
In the Premier League it might only mean reversing one fixture and possibly a League Cup tie, the real headache would be in the Championship with realistically meaning would play our first 6 or 7 fixtures (including Cup ties) away from home or finding an alternative venue for our home games.

Boxing Day is always going to be a real headache with the Sales crowds in Westfield and limited transport services in and out of Stratford, so realistically we can expect not to see a home fixture on the day for the foreseeable future which for me is a real disappointment far more than the one off situation in August.

Yep it's also sold out despite being on in the evening, on TV and in a stadium we 'couldn't possibly fill'.

BEST TRANSPORT LINKS IN EUROPE

How did you get to UP in these situations, just go that route, it's only 11 minutes away from Stratford after all.
